Morris Plains Police search for sandwich shop robber

Rt. 10 Subway held up by gunman; no one injured during theft

MORRIS PLAINS -- An armed robbery took place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Subway sandwich shop on 1745 Route 10 East, police said.

The male store clerk was not injured, Det. Edward Dobbins said. He declined to say how much money was taken from the store and the owner.

According to police, the suspect entered the store and walked up to the counter with a water bottle, then took out a black handgun and demanded money from the worker.

The clerk turned over the money in the cash register and then gave the suspect his wallet when more money was demanded.

The robber then fled through the back door, police said.

The store clerk described the suspect as a slim, clean-shaven black man, between 30 and 35 years old and about 6 feet tall. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, a brown vest, black knit hat, and dark sunglasses, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the borough police department at (973) 538-2284.
