MORRIS TWP. -- A Morris Plains woman was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer with her car door following an argument on West Hanover Avenue at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Patrolman Chris Tongring stopped 44-year-old
Anna Dilanno's 2008 Volkswagen for disregarding a traffic
signal, police said.
Dilanno insisted she didn’t go through the red light and, after
Tongring had issued her a summons, Dilanno shouted obscenities
at him and suddenly opened her car door, striking Tongring and
forcing him into the lane of traffic, according to police.
Dilanno walked over to the sidewalk and Tongring attempted to
arrest her for the assault, police said.
She was arrested with the help of township and Morris Plains
police officers and brought to the police station.
Both Dilanno and Tongring suffered minor injuries, police said.
She was charged aggravated assault and resisting arrest and
released on bail, which was set at $25,000 with a 10 percent
option.
