A Provident Bank branch in Morris Plains was robbed at gunpoint this morning by a man brandishing two handguns, authorities said.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said investigators were looking into whether today's robbery is linked to the holdup of another Provident Bank branch in Dover on Friday, though the descriptions of the robbers from each incident differs dramatically.

The Provident Bank in Morris Plains was robbed today at around 10:30 a.m. by a man described as African-American, in his early 30s, between 5-feet, 6-inches and 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with long, dark dreadlocks, a dark blue hat, light black jeans and a black jacket, Bianchi said. The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a silver vehicle, Bianchi said.

The robber in the Provident Bank robbery in Dover was described as a white man with brown eyes, 20 to 25 years old, wearing a black, zipped-hooded sweatshirt. The man fled on foot, authorities said.

The FBI is investigating both robberies in coordination with the Morris County Prosecutor's office and local police.
